Not the news that we were hoping for, however, following the government’s announcement yesterday, karate and aero kickboxing classes will be moving online as of Wednesday January 5th. According to the announcement, this will be in effect for 3 weeks.
We have been successful teaching online before and we are prepared to continue offering quality instruction over Zoom again. Classes will remain the same as in person- students will continue to learn their belt level curriculum, will earn stripes if eligible, and will work on their conditioning. Full participation is expected with students wearing their karate uniform, showing great focus, and giving 100% effort…just as they would in person.
**For those students who are scheduled to grade in January, the grading will still continue over Zoom. We will send details about the grading closer to the time.
We will be running a few fun contests as we are on Zoom. We will begin with a participation contest for both karate and aero kickboxing with prizes begin awarded to the student who participated in the most classes. The week of January 17th will be another contest Bring a family member to class. More details on these contests will be sent separately, and all information will be posted here on the Student Portal and social media.
The class schedule has been slightly altered to accommodate both karate and aero kickboxing classes over Zoom. Karate classes will be 30 minutes in length and there will be only one aero kickboxing class per night, but it will be 45 minutes. The temporary online schedule is attached and will also be available on the Student Portal. The calendar in the Portal will also have the classes along with the Zoom link.

Tips to getting the most from your online class:
1. Prepare your space – try to clear a space as best you can to allow for some basic movement. If you have a yoga mat or towel, have it close by to put down on the floor for floor exercises. We understand that everyone’s space is different and will give some alternatives to techniques if space is limited.
2. Remove as many distractions from the area as possible. It is more difficult to focus at home when you have your toys, pets, or other siblings around. If possible, try to limit distractions so you can concentrate on your class.
3. Make sure to set up your computer and camera beforehand. In order to help our students with their techniques and offer feedback, we need to see them. Please ensure that the camera is focused on the student and as much as possible.
4. Have your video ON and your audio OFF. If you need to ask a question, you may come closer to the camera and unmute or type your question into the chat box. We will have someone monitoring the chat as well as the main instructor.
If you have any questions, please feel free to message us.
